Roman aqueduct of Chelva

Roman aqueduct of Chelva

Today no information on portrait painting. This weekend we had a visit of my eldest sister and her son. This morning we made a long walk and showed them the beautiful surroundings of Chelva towards the Roman Aqueduct and the Peña Cortada.
We had a coffee in Calles and back home again. Along the way we found over a kilo wild asparagus and prepared it for lunch. Delicious veneered with poached eggs. (Thank you Simon!) Glass of wine … so not many tips on portrait painting today. Next week better.acuducto chelva 2 Foto0562

Wild asparagus

Yesterday night I returned from my “Commissioned Portrait Peregrinate”. Safe & Sound back home. I had some very nice encounters with clients.  And this time a variety of portrait commissions. A chairman of an international building company. Some children´s portraits and a portrait of an elegant lady. Three different categories, and each one with their own attraction. I love them all. Later I hope I can show you some of it. (Depending on the consent of the clients.) But in order to get going I spend my first day home with important trivial things like emptying suitcases and reading my mails. Weather was excellent this morning in Chelva so we left for a fairly long walk in the mountains around the village. It´s really the season now for good, wild asparagus. We found without searching, enough to have a good starter for dinner. Fried with some garlic and a scrambled egg. Delicious! Makes me feel home again.

Next  Sunday I will come back and I will  tell you more about my approach towards my models.

Chelva

As you have seen every now and then I took pictures of the “skyline” of our village Chelva from our garden. I made a short slideshow on Youtube. The guitar is by Rob Kietselaer.

Enjoy.

Summer in Chelva

Our vegetable garden in Chelva

My blog is not only on portrait painting as I said in the beginning. As little I will write about the Opening Celebration of the Olympic Games in London last Friday although I loved to see it… no, about our daily life here: Summer in Chelva. You know we live in the small and beautiful Spanish village of Chelva, Valencia. We are proud to have our own vegetable garden beside the house. This morning we were up early, before the heat of the day. I made the little protection bags to the grapes. My wife did the tomatoes.

Can you imagine what it is to work in your garden in the early, fresh hours of this splendid july Sunday morning and having this gorgeous panorama?

If there was an Olympic Medal to win in the section Good Living, I am sure we would challenge for Gold.

Forest fire near Chelva

Forest fire near the village of Chelva

When I started this blog I said I would write not only about portrait painting. Also about the village where we live. This afternoon a huge forest fire endangered our region. Six airplanes and two helicopters are still trying to extinguish the fire. The picture I took from our garden.

Photographers in Chelva

Last Saturday a group of photographers was here in Chelva. They took lots of photos of the environment and snapshots of us all there. You will see more later. We had a wonderful day.

Cleaning the landfill surroundings

Last weekend a group of volunteers cleaned the hills around the former Chelva landfill.
We were about 30 people. It is incredible what you can do in one hour! We will repeat this action end of this month at the other side of the village.

Betty Mus & cebollas blog

Just some pictures that I took today. You can see the onions are harvested and are drying in the shadow. Our dog Betty is the watching over them, probably she likes the smell. The kitchen garden is my wife´s pride and joy.

Around Chelva.

This morning we made a small trip with family from Holland. When I show visitors the region where we live it gives me always the idea that I look with their eyes and see once again the beauty of the surroundings of Chelva.

My brother in law took this picture of me that reminded me of the song Loosing my religion: That´s me in the corner.

Easter Sunday

It is the custom here on Easter Sunday to collect hallelujahs which are scraps of paper scattered from the roof of the village church. It is believed that they protect you and bring happiness.
I was able to catch eleven.
